Léon François Antoine Fleury (French, 1804 - 1858)

A slightly older contemporary of the Barbizon painters, Léon Fleury came from a family of painters. After completing his studies under Bertin and Hersent at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, he did a sketching tour of France and the neighboring countries, completing views of France and from Brussels in the north to Naples in the south. He also painted numerous views of the Alps and Switzerland. He was a regular exhibitor at the annual Salon between 1831 and 1855.
